Q: What can I do with photos from Placeology?
A: Photos published on Placeology are released for educational and informational purposes. You can use them in professional presentations and handouts etc. as long
as you credit the original photographer. You cannot use them for commercial purposes like publishing or advertising. For more information please see our
license FAQ
or Section 6 of the
Terms of Service.
Q: How can I acquire the commercial rights to a photo?
A: If you want to acquire the rights to use a photo for an advertisement or in a publication you must obtain them from the original photographer.
Placeology does not broker these rights at this time, but we can help you contact the owner of photos in our database. Please email
for help with licensing issues.
Q: If posted photos are released to the public, what exactly am I paying for?
A: Subscribers are paying for Placeology's top-notch photo organization and searching system. We let everyone preview the searching system,
but only subscribers get to download the high-resolution image files that are truly useful, because storing and delivering those files is what
really costs us money. Beyond that subscribers are paying to help this site exist - without your support we would not be able to operate it.
Q: Do I have to subscribe to access the original copies of my own photos?
A: Of course not! Registered users can *always* redownload their own photos at all sizes, whether or not they subscribe.
Q: Can I share my account with friends or coworkers?
A: No. You can use the stuff that you download however you want, but we ask that you not share your login information with any other
person. First of all, we make this service dirt cheap so that you don't *need* to share. We know how much AutoDesk and Adobe software costs, and we
know that you don't need to spend another fortune on your visual resources. However, we can't afford to keep the site running if lots of people share a single
account. To that end we have security measures in place to notice suspicious use of an account, and we reserve the right to close accounts that violate our
terms of service.
Q: Can I get a group subscription for my whole office, then?
We're currently considering ways to provide corporate and group accounts. If this is something you'd really like to see, please contact us and let us know.
We may be able to work out something that fits your needs right now, and your input will help us plan future additions to our service offerings.
Q: What's the deal with a Bootstrapper account?
A: Our business is bootstrapped - which means we launched it using only our own funds. People who want to support us are encouraged to buy a Bootstrapper
subscription, which means for a moderate one-time fee they will have a lifetime subscription to our best individual plan. Over time we expect this to be
an extraordinary value. The people who purchase it are basically betting on our success, and we're committed to justifying their faith.
